Hi, I’m Courtney. After graduating from Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) in 2011, I started out at Vita Group as a Graphic Designer. Here I worked with the Marketing and Product teams to design and execute advertising campaigns for brands such as HTC, Samsung and Apple. This involved designing for print, social media and digital. I also dabbled in photography and blogging on a company trip to Hawaii.
To satisfy an insistent desire to learn, I enrolled in the Masters of Creative Industries (Interactive and Visual Design) where I was introduced to User Experience Design. In 2014 I studied abroad in California’s Silicon Valley, focusing on Interaction design and Entrepreneurship, completing a UX Design Internship with my degree. My thesis scored a perfect 7 and I graduated with the USA equivalent of a 4.0 GPA.
Back in Brisbane, I explored the world of digital design at the online entertainment start-up, Reel Feed. Here I participated in all aspects of the product design process; from user research to wireframes and prototyping, to designing responsive user interfaces for web, Windows 8 and Android. I then took up an opportunity at Comscentre as Head of Brand and Digital. At Comscentre I used my user experience knowledge to improve internal processes and the customer experience across many areas of the business. Comscentre helped me further my education with a senior management Design Thinking course.
After winning the Green Card lottery I moved to Los Angeles. Since 2016 I’ve enjoyed creating magic for Disney Parks and Resorts as a Senior Product Designer.
