Systems Focused Product Designer
My Story
I was chatting with a woman on a train somewhere between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. It was 2008 and I was at the tail end of a year living in the UK. This was my final trip before returning to Australia where I would give university another shot; this time in the nursing program. I shared details of my future plans. Her response was abrupt but life changing. “You don’t seem like a nurse. You’re more of a… designer”. I’d often won the design class prize in school and enjoyed perfecting every detail of my projects on the weekends, though I’d never considered it a career path. I don’t know if there were any design courses in Brisbane in 2004. If there were, I didn’t know about them.
Today I’m a Senior Product Designer at Disney, but over the course of my career I’ve had a multitude of experiences in the technology and design industries, each building my skills in different and unique ways. I’ve spent time at agencies, startups (both in Australia and the US), and companies of every size, both B2B and B2C.
Not one to cut corners, I did my time at university too. I studying in both Brisbane, Australia and California’s Silicon Valley. I’ve achieved a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) and a Masters of Creative Industries (Interactive and Visual Design) with a 4.0 GPA.
Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia.
