Robotica Typeface

Robotica is a professional, original display type designed predominately for screen. Created specifically for the movie I, Robot, the font encapsulates the futuristic world presented in the film. The rectilinear, san-serif typeface is a contemporary exploration of geometric forms. My key source of inspiration for the font, was the shape of the iPhone 4. The phone is a clear example of utilitarianism and uniformity in the modern world. The phone combines slightly rounded corners with a square screen. My font mimics this relationship, where the counter of the glyphs are at right angles, and the outside angles are at a slight curve. I designed Robotica to have a modular, unified appearance. This imitates the anthropomorphic robots in the film. The robots lack individuality and uniqueness, similar to clones. The letters reflect this repetitiveness, using repeated widths, angles and shapes. I then used my font to create the movie credit introduction in After Effects.
